Refrigerator Freezer is Icing up

Continuous build up of ice in the freezer compartment is a serious issue for your refrigerator. This issue must be resolved for the refrigerator to work properly. The icing of freezer can be associated to some or one of the issues listed below.

  • Damaged door gaskets
  • Door alignment problem
  • Bad defrost timer, defrost heater or defrost thermostat

If you follow the steps presented below, we think that you will be able to find the cause of the problem and fix it with no to very low amount of money.

  1. 1Repair your refrigerator free: Find if you have warranty for your refrigerator. If you bought your refrigerator within one year, it is most likely that you have warranty. Most appliance manufacturers provide one year free warranty. If you have warranty, call the company and get your refrigerator fixed. If you do not have warranty and do not want to spend too much money, you will have to spend some time to identify and possibly fix the problem. The steps below will guide you through the process of identifying the problem and fixing the refrigerator.
  2. 2Check door gaskets: Check the freezer door carefully for hardened and cracked gaskets. If you find any problem in the gaskets, you need to replace the gaskets. If you can not replace the gaskets, ask a qualified technician to replace the door gaskets for you.
  3. 3Door alignment problem: Check if the freezer door is not correctly aligned with the freezer body where the door touches. If there is an unaligned freezer door, the door will not tightly close and it will let ambient air into the freezer. This ambient air seepage into the freezer compartment will disturb the defrosting system and ultimately stop the defrost cycle. This will lead to build up of icing inside the freezer. Adjust the hinges and align the door with the freezer body. Once the air seepage into the freezer stops, your freezer should not have continuous ice build up (if other components are working properly).
